The Vadodara Estate Brokers’ Association (VEBA) has started issuing identity card to its members in an attempt to avoid fraud in the real estate business. Along with the identity cards, the members will also carry a form with comprehensive details about both clients and agents.

Veba president Rajesh Shah told Newsline: “After realising that there are a large number of fake brokers in the market, who charge high fees and do not provide satisfactory services, we have decided to give a complete makeover to our association. We got it registered under the Trade Union Act and today we have close to 200 members. We have issued identity cards and a form book which contains complete details about the terms and conditions, location of the property, visit of the agent, client and remarks.”

Association secretary Shailesh Chauhan said awareness level among the clients is not as much as it is required. “Buying and selling property or giving or taking it on rent is quite complicated and there are chances that some irregularities take place during the deal, but if the broker is knowledgeable this can be avoided. We are trying to train our members, and are even inviting government people who know about the rules and regulation.” The association members further said that though there is a professional training for those who are involved in the real estate business, no such course is on offer in India.
